Meeting Them
Take a walk around your Minecraft world and you will meet the characters of Chiikawa. This chapter covers where they appear, what they get up to in the wild, and what each character is like.
Where to Find Them
Pets appear in plains, savannas, deserts, swamps and snowy plains, including biomes of the same kinds added by other mods. Only one appears at a time, and all eight characters are equally common. There aren't many of them, so they won't crowd out cows, sheep and the other vanilla animals; if you want them even rarer, or not at all, you can change that on the mod's settings screen, see Getting Started. If you can't find one right away, the Creative inventory also has a spawn egg for each character.

In the Wild
Wild pets don't just stand around. They are living their own lives too.
They often hold a tool. Each one is born with a basic tool that suits its personality: Chiikawa usually has a hoe, Usagi almost always has its own Subjugation Stick, Kurimanju and Momonga are often empty-handed, and Furuhonya never holds anything. Rakko always carries its own sword, and only wild Rakko have it: it can't be crafted, and the Shop doesn't sell it.
They work and save up too. Wild pets go to nearby Labor Boards to take the slips others have left, and keep the emeralds they earn on them. Once you tame one, that money comes home with it.
They don't damage your things. A wild Farmer only pulls up wild grass and never harvests the crops you planted; a wild Fencer only fights hostile mobs.
Characters
Each character talks and acts the way it does in the original series, and each likes to buy different things:

| Character | Temperament | Likes to buy |
|---|---|---|
| Chiikawa | Earnest and a little timid, hardly ever says a whole sentence, cries when something upsetting happens | Snacks |
| Hachiware | Cheerful and upbeat, one of the few who speaks in full sentences, loves street performance | Cooking ingredients |
| Usagi | Completely carefree, only makes its own strange cries, never cries | Anything at all, on a whim |
| Momonga | Wants praise for everything, not too keen on work | Cute little things |
| Kurimanju | A laid-back grown-up of few words, lets out a contented sigh after eating and drinking | Little dishes to go with a drink |
| Rakko | A tough senior who says everything in a word or two, loves hunting | Sweets |
| Shisa | Earnest and polite, with a touch of Okinawan dialect, very hard-working | Tea and other drinks |
| Furuhonya | Quiet and gentle | Books |
Their personalities are more than the few words written here. Who works harder, who is more carefree, who likes to stare at you or wander about when it has nothing to do: all of this shows little by little in the game, and there is more in Among Friends.
Found the one you like? The next step is Taming it.
