The Music Box
In the original series, Hachiware often plays guitar on the street. Here, you can put songs you like in a Music Box and hand it to Hachiware, and it will take up its guitar and play them for you. This chapter covers how to import songs, how to get Hachiware playing, and the Music Box's playback modes.
Importing Your Own Songs
Craft a Music Box from planks, a note block and gold ingots, then:
- Right-click while holding the Music Box to open its screen, and click Open Folder. This opens
config/chiikawa/musicin your game directory. - Put your
.mp3or.wavfiles in it, go back to the game and click Reload. - Click a song in the list to select it.
Songs are decoded right in the mod, with no external tools to install. On a multiplayer server, players nearby all hear the same song; in that case the songs go in this folder on the server, and admins can use /chiikawa music rescan to have the server scan it again.
Getting Hachiware to Play
Hand Hachiware a Music Box with a song selected, and it becomes a Musician, takes up its guitar and starts to play. For now only Hachiware can play; other characters holding a Music Box won't perform.
A Hachiware that has taken a Street Performance slip keeps playing until it has played for as long as the slip asks, and gets paid. See Work.
Playback Modes
The Music Box's screen has a playback mode button. Click it to change to the next mode:

| Play once | Stops. With a Street Performance slip, it keeps playing until the slip is done |
| Repeat all | Plays the next song in the list, and starts over from the top after the last one |
| Shuffle | Picks a random song to play next, never the one it just played |
| Repeat one | Plays the selected song again |
In the last three modes, Hachiware keeps playing as long as it has nothing else to do, so you can use it as background music for the whole home. Changing the song or the mode starts again from the selected song.
