Hachiware's Camera

In the original series, Hachiware finally bought the camera it had wanted for so long, and since then it often takes photos of everyone. Here, Hachiware does the same. This chapter covers how to get Hachiware taking photos, what it shoots, and how to look at the photos it takes.

The Camera and Film

The Camera is sold at the Shop for 32 emeralds. While Hachiware doesn't have a camera, it saves up its money and goes to buy one itself once it has enough; you can also buy one and put it straight into its backpack.

Film is sold at the Shop too, 2 emeralds a roll, and one roll takes 8 photos. When Hachiware has a camera but no film, it goes and buys some itself.

The camera and film can go in any slot of Hachiware's backpack. They don't take up its main hand, so it still holds its tool and goes to work. Only Hachiware takes photos; other characters holding a camera won't use it.

When It Takes Photos

When Hachiware is on Follow or Free Roam, it finds its own moments to take photos; it doesn't while it's sitting. There are a few conditions:

• You are within 64 blocks of it, in the same dimension.
• If you've just been hurt, or you're riding or flying, it waits until you've settled down.
• There is at least half a game day between two photos.
• When there's work to do, it finishes the work first.

What It Shoots

Hachiware shoots three things:

• You. When you're near it.
• Friends. It most wants to shoot friends nearby who are acting out a little scene, listening to a performance or have just seen their exam results; if there are none, it shoots a friend with nothing to do.
• Scenery. Sunrise and sunset, or a biome it walks into that it hasn't shot yet.

Sometimes it calls out "Say cheese~!" and the friend being shot turns to pose: Chiikawa gets shy, and Usagi jumps up shouting "Yahaaa!". Other times it says nothing, and quietly captures everyone just as they are.

What gets captured is the real view through Hachiware's eyes, drawn by your game in the background, so your screen doesn't flicker or stutter. With shaders on, the photos have the shader effects too.

Looking at the Photos

The photos are stored on the film. A roll that isn't finished yet stays in Hachiware's backpack, and you can take it out to look at whenever you like; once it's finished, Hachiware gives you the roll as a present, see Emeralds and the Shop.

Right-click while holding a roll of film to look through its photos page by page. Under each one it says who took it, on which day, and who is in it. Hover over the film to see how many shots this roll has taken so far.

The pictures are stored in your save, so backing up your save backs them up too. In the same world, anyone holding the roll can right-click to look through it.
